Alumni Profile -Senyo Akaba
Senyo Akaba ’06 was born into a very
strong and supportive family. He says, “the person I am today was mostly
inspired by the strong family values I was exposed to, the education I received
and the friends I’ve made along the way.”
Senyo came to Ashesi with the
intension of studying Computer Science but he changed a lot during his first two
years and decided to pursue a degree in Business Administration instead. During his time at Ashesi, Senyo founded the African Renaissance Movement (ARM), a platform for
young Africans to discuss important issues facing the continent. As President of the ARM, he organized seminars that
brought to the Ashesi campus many influential business and social change leaders.
“My stay at Ashesi would not have
been complete without the rich friendships I developed” Senyo says. “One of the
invaluable friends I made was the late Dr. Princess Awoonor-Williams. To me, and
many others in the Ashesi community, Dr. Princess Awoonor-Williams means a lot.
It’s the reason why I led my class to start the Princess Awoonor-Williams (PAW)
Scholarship Fund.”
Senyo works with the Barclays Bank
of Ghana’s Credit Assessment team; a place he has been for almost two years. He
continues to raise funds to support Ashesi. In November 2008, Senyo and Fatou
Traore ’06 led the campaign to raise GHc 5000 for the PAW Scholarship
Fund. The campaign is still on-going. “We continue to do this because we are
inspired by Princess’s ideals of community spirit, hard work, gender equality
and concern for others.”
According to Senyo, “with the
awareness of what the right kind of education can do to a person, I look forward
to developing projects in education. I will of course, emphasize ethics and
integrity at every level.” |
