The minimum amount to establish a named endowment is $100,000. Each named endowment retains its own purpose and account by which Ashesi tracks growth in principal and distributions. The Foundation provides annual reporting on the endowment’s performance and its impact.

Yes, you can contribute to any existing fund, at any amount. Ashesi currently has general endowments to support scholarships and university priorities. 

The overall goal of the endowment is to provide stable cash flow to the University with low to moderately volatile long-term growth. To enhance return and reduce risk, the Endowment portfolio shall be composed of a diversified portfolio of assets, including both public equities, publicly traded fixed-income investments and publicly traded real asset investments. 

The Investment Policy may be modified, as needed from time to time, to include additional asset classes; such as private equity and/or hedge funds.

No portion of Ashesi’s endowment is invested directly in companies or concerns that are engaged in the following industries:
a) Manufacture or sale of tobacco products; or
b) Manufacture or sale of firearms or weapons

The Spending Policy of the Foundation’s Endowment is based on a total return policy in which capital gains, interest and dividends are reinvested in the Endowment. 

Donors can make a gift of any size to the Ashesi scholarship fund. The funds are pooled together and sent to the University where the Admissions Team has full discretion on how the scholarships are awarded.

When donors give $60,000 or more, they can name a four-year scholarship. With a gift of $100,000 or more, donors can endow a scholarship to support Ashesi students in perpetuity. To learn more about this, please contact foundation@ashesi.org.

Donors and their families can specify to help from underserved communities, including women, international students, or students from a particular country or region.

Unrestricted giving to Ashesi allows the university to respond more quickly to emerging opportunities and challenges. By giving without restrictions, you allow Ashesi to prioritize and address the most urgent needs as they arise. Whether it’s expanding our learning programs, upgrading technology and facilities, or supporting faculty development and research, unrestricted funds ensure that Ashesi remains a vibrant, dynamic institution for students.
