Ashesi’s new student dorms received the Educational Facility construction award at the first Ghana Construction Awards held this month in Accra. Under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence for National Development,” the awards aim to help set a standard for quality in the Ghana Construction industry. Asona Enterprise Limited, the Ghanaian construction firm that served as contractors for the dorm project, received the award.
‘It is an incredible achievement to be announced as an award winner today,” said Akin Naphtal, CEO of Instinctwave, which organized the awards. “The high calibre of nominees is a true reflection of dynamism, professionalism and excellence, attributes that will drive this industry in the following years.”
Handed over to the university in August of 2015, the new 96-bed dorm is part of efforts to make Ashesi a stronger residential campus and provide more living spaces for students. With student feedback from previous dorm architecture, the new dorms feature more student hangout spaces, more room for collaborative work and will provide options for two to four students in a room.
